Taylor Swift, full Taylor Alison Swift. American singer/songwriter who's had great fame with the stories she recounts about her early heartbreak. Swift showed an interest in music at an early age, and quickly moved from roles in theatre for children and her first public appearance in front of an audience of tens of thousands. Swift was 11 years old when she performed The Star-Spangled Banner at a Philadelphia 76ers basketball match. In the following year, she began writing songs and picked up the guitar. Swift got inspiration from musicians from the country genre, such as Shania Twain, the Dixie Chicks and now the Chicks to create original material which reflected the alienation she experienced by 13. Swift's parents relocated her to Tennessee at the age of 13 when they decided to sell their Pennsylvania farm. It gave Swift to spend more time looking for labels to promote country music in Nashville.
